Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy

At ALIGN, we specialize in using the Dolphin Neurostim Professional Device to treat chronic and acute soft tissue pain, c section and scar release. The Dolphin Neurostim can also be used to improve vagal tone with vagus nerve stimulation,  MPS therapy is done by applying direct current microcurrent impulses to acupuncture points, providing quick and effective pain relief for a number of medical conditions.  MPS therapy integrates the principles of acupuncture with modern neurological science to provide an all-natural, holistic approach to treating the body and mind.

MPS Therapy Pain Protocols

MPS therapy protocols work with the Dolphin Neurostim™ device.  The Dolphin Neurostim applies a direct current micro current to acupuncture points for the purpose of relaxing muscles, calming the nervous system, accelerating cellular healing  and releasing endorphins (our body's natural pain killers).   This multi-pronged effect on the body’s nervous, muscular and endocrine systems is the reason why the Dolphin Neurostim works so fast and effectively with many chronic pain conditions.

MPS therapy can provide relief for conditions, such as:
  • Back Pain/Sciatica
  • Arthritis/Joint pain
  • Bursitis
  • Knee Pain
  • Abdominal pain/Menstrual Cramps
  • Tendonitis
  • Scars and Adhesions

Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Picture
Vagal tone is the main indicator of parasympathetic vagal nerve activity and vagal tone health. The vagus nerve, the 10th cranial nerve, is a key component of the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. The vagus nerve initiates 80% of your body's relaxation mode. When the sympathetic nervous system goes into survival mode with fight, flight, and freeze, it signals the HPA axis to release stress hormone cortisol and adrenaline into your body. Through internal support, the vagus nerve puts the brakes and says “Chill Out!”. People who have a stronger vagal tone can rest, recover, and restore much more effectively.

Non-Invasive Vagus Nerve Simulation:
The concept of passive or active electrically stimulating the auricular branch (the branch that goes around the ear) of the vagus nerve is now gaining recognition in literature. (Barone L et al; 2007,De Couck M et al; 2012).
Vagal nerve stimulation has been reported to improve Heart Rate Variability, (Constantinescu V et al., 2019,Levin C et al.) , activate the parasympathetic system, (Clancy JA et al., 2014) reduce inflammation (Kaniusaset al.,2019), respiratory dysfunction (Tracey,2007), and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines to improve respiratory function(Tracey,2007).

Benefits of Increasing Vagal Tone:
  • Decrease Inflammation
  • Improve Circulation and Lymph Flow
  • Reduce Muscle Tension
  • Reduce Pain

C Section Scar Release Therapy

Picture
C -Section Scar Release Therapy (SRT) is a scar reduction treatment that is simple and highly effective for reducing the negative influence of the c section scar.  The use of two Dolphin Neurostim devices at the scar increases skin’s inter-cellular metabolism, protein synthesis and healing functioning to re-awaken the skin’s ability to self generate.

It is well known  that C-Section scars impact the body in negative ways. They restrict or bind the fascia, muscles, nerves, bones, organs and systems. The affects of the c section scar can be local at the abdominal and pelvic area, or can even be farther away.
People with a c section report:
  • 40% increase in chronic back pain
  • 20% increase in shoulder or neck pain

Scar Release Therapy

Picture
Scars can result in a tightening of the surrounding tissue that can restrict movement or function in the body. These restrictions not only affect the joint, limb or surrounding area, but they can affect the underlying organs, too. Scar tissue has the potential to spread in any direction, including internally, throughout the body. Fortunately, releasing the scar can yield powerful results, which can improve mobility, diminish complications and decrease pain often associated with deep scars.

Microcurrent Point Stimulation is the method used to release scars, and is especially effective in treating large, deep, painful scars. The use of the Dolphin Neurostim, on the tissue surrounding the scar, creates a healing, inflammatory response. Dead cells and scar tissue are broken down by the body; circulation is increased to the area; and the lymphatic system can excrete the dead cells. You will see visible changes in the appearance of the scar and gradually will notice a reduction in the tightness and restriction felt at the site of the scar.
The duration of treatment will depend on how long you’ve had the scar, how deep it is, and the severity of any pain you may be having. It is never too late to work on old scars.
